NOTTINGHAM, 2017

Having previously worked with dozens of frontline partner charities across the country to coordinate targeted need-based donations of essential items, from rucksacks to sleeping bags, shampoo to tampons, our 2017 exhibit in Nottingham was a turning point for our organisation, from resources to stories. For our pilot ‘Stories of the Streets’ project, we worked with Emmanuel House and Canaan Trust to build our first cohort of photographers, who then spent weeks documenting their experiences of homelessness in the city and sharing their stories. For several months we occupied a whole shop floor in the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre in the city centre, providing a space for the community to interact and share with our photographers, as well as to better understand the challenges they face. Sales from each photo were distributed to their author in a personal fund they could use to invest in their futures, buying laptops and software, skills improvement courses, and private counselling sessions.
